Fifteen And Send Time
class (F.A.S.T.)
(Notes from LVDICE's Jan 06 general meeting discussion on the
rules, scoring, and course review, including clarifications from Gail Storm, AKC
Rep and Marq Cheek, AKC Judge and Advisory committee member)
These notes are a compilation of my
understanding of the rules for AKC's new game class, FAST. They are posted
without warranty. If your understanding of the game is different, please let me
know.
Obstacles
- 15 obstacles that are assigned point values (of which
6 are bar jumps)
- 6 bar jumps (typically winged) are worth 1 point each
(no bars are reset during a run if displaced)
- 9 other obstacles, worth 2 – 10 points individually
(using numbered flags or placards)
- Non-pointed obstacles may be on the course (typically
non-winged bar jumps or tunnel)
- Obstacles that are bi-directional may be taken either
direction unless otherwise directed by the judge.
- Non bi-directional obstacle are triple, see-saw,
broad jump, chute
- No obstacle may be taken consecutively twice in a row
- Any bi-directional obstacle with dual point values
(i.e. a set of weaves with points awarded for opposite end entries and full
completion) may not be taken back to back to earn both sets of point values.
- Faulted contact obstacles may be repeated for an
attempt to earn points, as long the contact obstacle is not attempted in
back-to-back fashion.
- Weave poles may be attempted immediately from either
end if faulted, but must be restarted at a beginning pole and completed
faultlessly from start to finish to earn points. If a judge has elected to
post dual values for each entry, then a competitor must complete all poles
cleanly in the designated direction of travel to earn the assigned points.
- Minimum 2, maximum 3 unique contact obstacles
- Maximum of 4 contact obstacles may be completed
for points, 1 may be taken twice, for two separate point values
- Dog/handler attempting to repeat previously
successfully completed contact obstacle and/or weaves shall result in a
double-whistle; immediate exit to finish obstacle to stop
time required (retains points already earned)
- Four-paw rule always in effect (if contact is
faulted another obstacle must be done before reattempting)
- Obstacle combinations can be multiple jumps
or more than just jump combos so as to encourage
variety (ie. if a judge wants to make a jump/seesaw combo for 10 points it
would be allowed) See Section 2 of Description chapter.
